Youth Classes

Intro. to Wheel Throwing

Date: 6 Mondays, January 23 - February 27

Time: 4:00-6:30pm

Course description: Instruction will focus on teaching the steps to throwing a well-formed and proportional cylinder. Each week students will perfect and hone their technique and will learn to alter forms with shapes and textures. Clay is available in class $15/commercial clay, $5./pugged clay.

Exploring Children's Creativity w/ Pen and Paper

Date: 4 Mondays, February 6 - February 27

Time: 4:30-6:30pm

Course Description: Through proper story structure, allow your creativity to flow as you write your stories on paper and paint vivid word pictures with your pen. Write about real life or craft fictional stories of fun times and fantasy. All you need to bring is your imagination and come join the magical world of "words".

Chris McAllister received a BA degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He has been a career as a freelance illustrator for over 20 years. He has won numerous awards including from the New York Society of Illustrators and Communication Arts Magazine.
Christina Blume is an herbalist in Denver, CO. She has been teaching classes all across the front range since 1994. . www.blumesfarm.com
Jan Myers has been a painter for 44 years. A signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Jan's work can be seen in numerous public and corporate collections.

Carolyn Campbell has been teaching poetry for over 35 years. She has written 4 award winning books of poetry, an historical novel, and a play. She is a Colorado Book Award Winner.
Jonathan Nicklow received his BFA in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design and his MFA in Printmaking from CU Boulder. He has shown nationally and internationally including the Smithsonian Institute. He is currently the Director of Education at CAE.
Carrie Doman has had a self-directed ceramic education including taking classes at community colleges and attending workshops, many at Anderson Ranch Art Center
Valerie Nicklow received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her beadwork has been shown in the New York Museum of Arts and Design and has been featured in many publications including Beadwork Magazine.
Pem Dunn was selected into the 2009 and 2010 Colorado Governors Invitational Art Show. His work has been in the Western Art Collector and South West Art magazines. Brady Noble has a BFA from Mississippi State University with an emphasis in Ceramics. As a professional artist she has shown in galleries statewide and nationally.
Sandy Early has an education degree and 30 years experience with clay. She has taught and shown throughout Colorado. Chris Orlikowski received her BA in Fine Arts from the University of South Florida and now spends the majority of her time painting and making jewelery.
Julia Wade Fliss has a MA in Educational Counseling and a BA in Art History, Women's Studies, and Spanish Language and Literature. She is a professional artist and has experience as a Creative Consultant and as an Educator. Kirsty Saalfrank has been a freelance photographer for the past 10 years. She graduated from the Art Institute of Colorado and taught & worked at the Maine Photographic Workshops.

Gail Frasier graduated from University of South Florida and has been working in clay for 32 years. Her work has been featured in the Sculpture in the Park, Loveland and in the Evergreen Open Studio Tour. Her work is represented throughout Colorado. Jen Schubert holds a certification in both Elementary and Special Education. In addition to teaching within the public school system, Jen has a background in professional theatre, accessory design, and photography.
Kami Guildner and Susan Williams Kami is a Certified Equine Guilded Educator and is trained in Appreciative Inquiry Change Management. Susan Williams is an equine fine artist and author, she studied photography at the International Center for Photography museum and is certified in the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method. Jean Sharer has a PhD in American Studies, with an emphasis in 19th and 20th c. American Art and Architecture from the University of New Mexico and a MA in art and architectural history from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has taught Art History at Front Range Community College and at Metropolitan State College for many years.
Cathy Jones became interested in impressionist painting while studying for her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Paris and Grenoble, France. When she moved to Colorado she discovered Georgia O'Keefe and began painting flowers. Robin P. Thayer is a self -taught artist, graduating from the University of MN-Duluth. She is the artist behind the popular greeting cards for Studio Lila. Her art and techniques have been well-published in leading international publications. She teaches workshops locally and nationally.
Harold Link has over twenty years experience sculpting the figure. Harold has sculpted hundreds of pieces that reside in over 900 locations around the world. Tom Ware is a longtime sculptor in Evergreen, having studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Missouri.
Angela Loperena received her B.A. from Stetson University and her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law. She studied ceramics at The Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. Angela has been part of the Morean's faculty where she taught children and adult ceramics classes. Anita Winter is a representational watercolorist who has won regional and national awards for her art. She is a signature member of Rocky Mountain Watermedia, Western Federation of Watercolor and Colorado Watercolor Society.
Sally Davidson Marovich is an award winning artist and a highly regarded instructor who
loves to share her enthusiasm and cheer her students on to success
 

 

Arts in the Schools

The mission of the Arts in the Schools program is to promote and cultivate artistic excellence in the visual and performing arts and to enrich the art experience in our mountian community. Over the past six years this program has benefited many of the schools in Evergreen and our mountain community.

This program is made possible by a matching funds grant from the Evergreen Rotary Club.

Grant recipients

2011 Arts in the Schools Grant Application

 
1. Projects - may include but are not limited to Artist-In-Residence, Art Days, special programs to bring in visiting performers or artists, public arts project such as murals or sculptures. Note: The Center for the Arts Evergreen expects other fund raising efforts to compliment the Art Center's funds.

  • Artistic excellence and artistic merit of the project
  • Ability to carry out the project
  • Clarity of the projects goals and design
  • Applicant's readiness to accomplish the project
  • Qualifications of key staff who will carry out the project

    Magical Copper Clay Jewelery All Levels

    Course description: Each Session is separately. COPPRclay consists of pure copper, water, & non-toxic binding materials. The binding materials vaporize completely during the kiln-firing process, leaving a solid copper. All copper used to make COPPRclay is recycled. It can be pinched, rolled, sculpted, and manipulated to make unique jewerly pieces. We will be making pendants, charms, and links. This is the perfect class for beginners who have never worked in metal clay and want to learn the basics.

    Course description: Painter or quilter, glass artist, potter or flower arranger, everyone can benefit from an understanding of the four elements of color, standard color models and proven color relationships to create eye-catching and dramatic work. Learn how the elements of color can direct the eye and emphasize the focus of a design and use the psychological effects of color to engage and hold attention. More attention equals better sales.     Mixed Media Painting: Mastering Multiple Mediums All Levels

    Course description: This class will teach students different methods in constructing very interesting mixed meduim pieces using paper, fabric, yarn, wood, spray paints, stencils, and various dry and wet mediums. In acrylic and watercolor painting the instructor will teach ways to manipulate the paint with several easy techniques that allow the paintings to have dynamic textures, colors, and compositions. This class will also concentrate on the importance of basic design principals and the elements of art.

    Watercolors for Those Who Think They Can't Paint Beginner

    Magical Copper Clay All Levels

    Date: 2 Fridays, April 6 & 13

    Course description: Each Session is separately. COPPRclay consists of pure copper, water, & non-toxic binding materials. The binding materials vaporize completely during the kiln-firing process, leaving a solid copper. All copper used to make COPPRclay is recycled. It can be pinched, rolled, sculpted, and manipulated to make unique jewerly pieces. We will be making pendants, charms, and links. This is the perfect class for beginners who have never worked in metal clay and want to learn the basics.

    The Principles of Painting Still Life in Oil All Levels

    Printmaking by Hand All Levels

    Course Description: This class is an overview of basic relief printmaking techniques on fabric and/or paper. This is a perfect class for any quilter wanting to print their own designs or for any student wishing to experiment with basic printmaking. Students will explore styrofoam plates, linoleum block printing and how to combine them with other techniques. Bring ideas and sketches that you would like to see transformed into amazing prints.

    Beginning Bead Embroidery with Cabochons All Levels

    Course Description: In this class students will learn the mixture of stitching techniques to use stone cabochons in bead embroidery.     Hannah Beal is a graduate of RMCAD's painting and drawing department and Metro State's art education program. As a local artist, she shows at galleries in Denver throughout the year. Hannah is a teacher in the Denver Metro area and loves the experiences of the art classroom. Helping students feel creative and inspired to make art is her goal in teaching. She has an Akita named Samson that her and her husband take on hikes all summer long. Chris McAllister received a BA degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California. He has enjoyed a career as a freelance illustrator for over 20 years. He has won awards from the New York Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts magazine, Print Regional Design
    Annual and the Society of Publication Designers. He is a member of the Art Students League of Denver. He has studied with nationally acclaimed artists Harry Carmean, Dan McCaw, Craig Nelson and Ron Hicks.
    Christina Blume is an herbalist in Denver, CO. She has been teaching classes in herbs and flower essences, in addition to animal healing at the Denver Botanic Gardens, Arapahoe Community College, the Community Schools in Denver and the Tagawa Garden Center since 1994. She can also be seen doing an "herb demo" two Sundays a month on the local ABC affiliate, KMGH-TV, in Denver. www.blumesfarm.com Jan Myers has been a painter for 44 years and travels throughout the Southwest photographing and sketching for several weeks at a time. A signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Jan's work can be seen in numerous public and corporate collections including the Adam's Mark Hotel, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the Colorado School of Mines.

    Carrie Doman discovered clay and its tactile qualities in her early thirties and found that it allowed her to express her artistic spirit. Her ceramic education has been self-directed, taking classes at community colleges and attending workshops including many two and three week workshops at Anderson Ranch Art Center. Over time she was able to combine the little "gems" of information from each instructor to create a unique style that was her own. Carrie's work has been selected for several national shows juried by well known ceramic artists such as Val Cushing, Matt Long, Virginia Scotchie, Tom and Elaine Coleman, Jim Koudelka, Blair Meefeld and Julia Galloway. Jonathan Nicklow is a recent MFA grad from CU Boulder. He also has a BFA from Savannah College of Art & Design. His current work is based on his visual fairy tale titled "The Rabbit Who Married The Bear." Jonathan utilizes printmaking, painting and drawing, film, photography,

    Gail Frasier graduated from University of South Florida, 1968, and has been working in clay for 32 years. Her work will be in Sculpture in the Park, Loveland, in August and in the Evergreen Open Studio Tour in September. Her work is represented in the Quiller Gallery, Crede, CO, the Gallery at Genesee and in the Evergreen Gallery. Kirsty Saalfrank has been a freelance photographer for the past 10 years. After graduating from the Art Institute of Colorado she taught and worked at the Maine Photographic Workshops.
    Kirsty loves to teach others the simple techniques to achieve a great photograph. Along with portrait photography she enjoys photographing nature and still life. Her work can be viewed at:

    Cathy Jones became interested in impressionist painting while studying for her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Paris and Grenoble, France. After graduation from the University of Illinois, Champaign, she moved to New England where she became inspired by coastal scenery. Her interest in landscape expanded when she moved to Colorado where she discovered Georgia O'Keefe and began painting flowers. She is currently represented exclusively at The Evergreen Gallery.

    Arts in the Schools

    The mission of the Arts in the Schools program is to promote and cultivate artistic excellence in the visual and performing arts and to enrich the art experience in our mountian community. Over the past six years this program has benefited many of the schools in Evergreen and our mountain community.

    This program is made possible by a matching funds grant from the Evergreen Rotary Club.

    1. Projects - may include but are not limited to Artist-In-Residence, Art Days, special programs to bring in visiting performers or artists, public arts project such as murals or sculptures. Note: The Center for the Arts Evergreen expects other fund raising efforts to compliment the Art Center's funds.
